Jazz Hands

May 8th, 2010 by mariahbuck

Apparently Tyler has come to love posing for pictures using Jazz Hands. We have no idea where it came from. But just like everything else Tyler does, it is a trait all his own.  (Mommy loves you big boy!)

Jazz hands getting ready to party!!

Adventures in Dissection

April 3rd, 2010 by mariahbuck

Brandon had his first dissection in Biology several weeks ago.  (it took me a while to post about it) It is so funny to think back at his past feelings about dissections vs his feelings now.  If you asked him last year, or even at the beginning of this year how he felt about the fact he would be doing it, he would have told you that it was gross and that he didn’t want to do it. But the weeks leading up to his first dissection, he was counting down the days!

D-day finally arrived (dissection day.) I can just see Brandon shaking his head at this corny joke. haha. Sorry Brandon. Anyway, I was able to snap some pictures. He was a little embarrassed that I came into his class to take pics, but I told him he didn’t have a choice. I tried to snap a few shots and leave, as not to embarrass him too bad. Later that day, after the dissection was over he asked my why I didn’t stay and take pics of the whole thing. I guess I missed “the best part.” Can’t win :)

After the dissection was over a couple of kids got to make a clay model of what they learned. Here is Brandon and Artie’s model.  As a side note - Brandon is doing so, so good in biology! He is the youngest in his class and it is a class geared at 9th grade and above. He really seems to like it, especially now that they have started to do the dissections. In class they often have verbal quizzes and review tests. Brandon has been nicknamed “textbook” because he seems to always know the answer.A nickname that he is proud to have.

After dissections, Brandon called me over to snap a couple of pictures of his clay model. After taking the picture, he accidentally knocked my camera out of my hands and it broke! Yes - it broke! Sigh. Luckily I was able to get it repaired and now I will be able to take many more embarrassing pictures of Brandon in class. Life is good!

Silly Daddy

January 7th, 2010 by mariahbuck

Today Shaun had a conversation with Tyler about his birthday dinner. Our kids get to choose where they want to go to dinner on their birthdays. There is a buffet here in Idaho called Chuck-o-rama. It just sounds nasty and we have never eaten there. Shaun was trying to get Tyler to say that he wanted to eat there as a joke to Mama. Here is how the conversation went:

Daddy: Tyler for your birthday tell Mommy that you want to go to a restaurant called Chuck-o-rama.
Tyler: Daddy, nooooo.
Daddy: Yes, they have pizza and mac n cheese and soda.
Tyler: No way, I wanna go to Chuck E Cheese, you fool!!!

After we stopped laughing hysterically, we had to correct him and tell him that you don’t call mommy or daddy a fool. But Man was it funny! Silly Daddy, that’s what you get for trying to play a trick on Mommy! ;)

Tyler Said..

August 2nd, 2009 by Mariah

Mommy, When I grow so big, I’m not gonna drive a car. I’m gonna drive a horse.

Tyler: Mommy, do you know wanna know why the sun goes down at night and it gets dark?                                                                                                                           Mommy: Sure.                                                                                                                                 Tyler: God made it like that so if people wanna do fireworks, it will be dark so they can see them.

Tyler (talking to Mom and Dad): I don’t need to ask permission for snacks now that I’m a big brother, right?

I’m Gonna Be a Fireman When I Get Big

April 10th, 2009 by Mariah

Tyler and I have been joining a friend each Wednesday morning for story-time at the Nampa Library. Tyler loves it. They alternate reading a kids book and singing a song. Then they read, then they sing. It is a great mix for the active boys that my friend Natalie and I have..

Today, after story-time, Tyler and I were walking to our car and saw a firetruck parked outside of the fire station. Ty asked if we could go look at it. There was no one inside of the truck and they didn’t appear to be leaving, so I said yes. I guess that I underestimated the awesomeness of the Nampa Fire department. It was almost like they were waiting for us to walk up.. About 6 firemen came out of the station before we made it to the truck. I asked if it was ok for us to look at the truck, to which they responded, “Of course!”

They opened the truck up for Tyler and pulled out a plastic fireman’s hat to give to him. They gave him a sticker badge to wear on his shirt. They let him climb into the back of the truck to check out the hoses. He got to try on a pair of firefighter boots, sit in the drivers seat, put on the headphones and even turn on the lights and sirens! Tyler was in paradise!!

He has been telling Shaun and I that he wants to be a police man when he “grows so big,” but after today’s experience; he told me that now he wants to be a fireman when he grow so big :)

The Nampa Fire Department Rocks!!!
